From Shelter to Soulmate: Valentine’s Adoption Story

You know that feeling when something’s missing, but you can’t quite put your finger on it? That’s what life felt like for Erin and her boyfriend when they first moved away from home. Their new place was nice, but the silence was loud. They were used to the energy, warmth, and love that only a pet can bring—and without it, the house just didn’t feel like home.

“Valentine saved me in 2024 when I rescued him from Dorchester Paws. After moving away from home, it was the first time my boyfriend and I lived without any animals running around and the home felt empty. After adopting Valentine, the house feels so much more like a home. When he isn't napping on the couch, he's playing tug of war with a rope toy bigger than himself. My favorite thing about Valentine is how loving he is.” – Erin

Adopted from Dorchester Paws, this little guy quickly changed everything. Suddenly, the quiet was replaced with playful barks, the pitter-patter of paws, and rope-tugging battles that made everyone laugh. Valentine isn’t just a pet—he’s the heartbeat of their home, the cuddle buddy after a long day, and the best friend who never lets them forget they’re loved.

What’s so beautiful about their story is how much Valentine and Erin have given each other. Sure, she rescued him—but it seems like Valentines love rescued her right back. And that kind of love? It deserves to be celebrated and remembered forever. That’s why I believe so strongly in what we do as a luxury pet portrait photographer. Our premium portrait sessions aren’t just about getting a cute photo; they’re about capturing that once-in-a-lifetime bond, by freezing the silly moments and the soulful ones so they can be cherished long after the toys are worn out and the naps have moved to new favorite spots.

Valentine may have started as the missing piece, but now he’s the whole picture. And thanks to Erin’s love—and the care of Brighton Animal Hospital in Nexton—he gets to keep making their world brighter every single day.
