When planning a portrait experience, one of the most common questions clients ask is how much time they should set aside. At Castelo Portrait Art, a portrait session is designed to feel relaxed, guided, and intentional — never rushed. Your experience is thoughtfully divided into two parts: the portrait creation and the portrait reveal.
The first hour is dedicated entirely to photographing you and bringing your vision to life. When you arrive at our studio in Charleston, the focus immediately shifts to helping you feel comfortable and confident.
We begin with a brief consultation to review wardrobe selections, styling details, and the overall mood of your session. Whether your portraits are intimate, empowering, or elegant fine art, every pose and expression is guided step-by-step. You never need modeling experience — direction is provided throughout the entire process.
During this hour, we work through multiple looks, lighting styles, and posing variations. Small adjustments are made along the way to ensure flattering angles, beautiful posture, and natural emotion. The goal is not just to take photographs, but to create artwork that reflects your personality and presence.
By the end of the first hour, your portraits have been fully captured, and you’ve experienced the most transformative part of the session — seeing yourself through an artistic lens.
After your portraits are created, the experience moves into the viewing portion — often clients’ favorite part of the day.
During the second hour, you’ll sit down for a private cinematic reveal of your portraits. This is the first time you see yourself as art. Many clients describe this moment as meaningful, empowering, and unexpectedly emotional.
Together, we review your portraits and help you select the artwork that speaks to you most. Guidance is provided on artwork sizing, wall design, albums, and heirloom pieces so your portraits become tangible artwork rather than files left on a phone.
This hour is intentionally unrushed. Choosing portraits is a personal process, and we want you to feel confident in every decision you make.
A portrait session isn’t just a photoshoot — it’s a complete experience. In approximately two hours, you move from anticipation to creation, and finally to owning artwork that tells your story for years to come.
