More Than Companions: How Bella and Tweety Chose Their Family

There’s something so special about the way animals find us, isn’t there? Our Who Saved Who project is all about celebrating those beautiful, serendipitous moments where pets become more than companions... they become family, healers, and protectors. Barbara and Sam’s story with Bella and Tweety is the perfect example. Bella, their elegant American Great Dane, was just 4 months old when she walked up to Barbara’s power chair, leaned against it, and chose her. From that moment on, she’s been Barbara’s service dog, a steady presence at her side, giving comfort, strength, and love in ways only a dog can.

Then came little Tweety, the Papillon with a big personality wrapped in tiny paws. When the breeder brought her to their home, Tweety didn’t hesitate—she went right to Barbara’s chair, paws on the wheel, and asked to be in her lap. And that was that. From then on, she was Barbara’s shadow, her lap-warmer, and her joy. Here’s how Barbara describes how her pups chose her;  "Bella was 4 months old when we met. Bella came next to my power chair and leaned on it. Bella chose me. She’s my service dog and stays at my side. Tweety was 1 year old when the breeder brought her & 2 siblings to our home. Tweety put her front paws on my power chair wheel & wanted in my lap. She’s been with me ever since."

Together, Bella and Tweety fill Barbara and Sam’s lives with loyalty, laughter, and unconditional love. These two pups aren’t just pets, they’re family—and living proof of the magic in the bond between humans and their animals. And of course, none of this journey would be possible without the loving care of their veterinarian, Dr. Stephen Green at Knightsville Veterinary Clinic in Summerville; They have been such an important part of keeping Bella and Tweety happy and healthy through the years.

As a fine art portrait photographer, it’s such an honor to capture these moments—not just a pretty picture, but the very heartbeat of a family’s story. These portraits remind us that love comes in many shapes and sizes: sometimes it’s a gentle giant who leans into your wheelchair with quiet devotion, and sometimes it’s a tiny ball of fluff who leaps straight into your lap and never leaves your side. And when we bring couples and their beloved companions together for luxury couples portraits, the magic is undeniable—it’s not just about looking beautiful, it’s about freezing that feeling of Who saved Who in time. Heartfelt, genuine, and timeless, these are the kind of portraits that make you smile every time you walk past them on the wall.

If you have a story that warms the heart, we would be honored to feature you in our Who Saved Who project. Apply here to see if you’re a good fit—we’re eager to hear the unforgettable moments where you and your animal saved each other. Every bond is extraordinary, and we can’t wait to celebrate the love, loyalty, and magic that makes yours one-of-a-kind.
