Pet Portraits Warm Our Hearts + Charleston Pet Rescues to Support

There’s a special place in my heart for furry friends. I’ve written recently about the many different ways that my sweet dog Gunner has enhanced my life (though, I could really have written a book on the subject). When I meet my clients pampered pups, my heart is so full. I can see how these dogs make their people’s lives more fun, more joyful, more meaningful, and filled with such unconditional love.

Did you know there have been studies that show that people who own dogs live healthier, longer lives? (Check out this article about the health benefits of having a dog by the American Heart Association.)

It’s no wonder that so many dog owners treat their pups like a cherished part of the family--they give us so much! I am so honored to be able to capture their pets in a way that honors that relationship, which is why I’m dedicating the whole first week of December to pet portraits only.

As I work with some of the best loved dogs in Charleston making stunning portraits, I can’t help but think about some of the sweet dogs that aren’t so lucky.

I hope you’ll consider adopting a dog or donating to support some of these local dog rescues. There are so many that are doing such good work in our community. Let’s help them save lives and place dogs in loving homes so that the dogs and their people can experience that special bond that so many pet owners enjoy.

Here are some of my favorite Charleston Pet Rescue organizations with links to their websites so you can volunteer your time, donate, or adopt:

Pet Helpers

Charleston Animal Society

Palmetto Paws Animal Rescue

Happy’s Porch

Valiant Animal Rescue + Relief

Water’s Edge Great Dane Rescue in Bonneau (because Gunner!)

OF course there are SO many animal rescues doing great work in the area. For a more comprehensive list head over to Lowcountry Paws magazine.

Coming soon! Stay tuned for an upcoming event supporting a local pet rescue!
