Carly shared with us that “RJ loves anything and everyone,” and it shows, his gentle nature and sweet spirit lit up every moment of the session. Max, on the other hand, brings all the energy “he loves to run on his wheel as fast as he can,” Carly said.
Whether it’s RJ’s quiet affection or Max’s playful bursts of energy, their bond with Carly is full of joy, balance, and unconditional love. Capturing those little quirks and big feelings is exactly what we live for.
Carly’s portrait session with her beloved companions: RJ the dog and Max the hedgehog, was nothing short of magical. RJ, her calm and loyal 7-year-old pup, brought a grounded energy and quiet sweetness to the studio, his eyes full of trust and love. But we have to admit we were especially excited to photograph Max, her curious and adorable 2-year-old hedgehog! His tiny feet, spiky charm, and bold personality stole the show and added an extra layer of fun to this already heartwarming session. Together, Carly, RJ, and Max aren’t just a trio—they’re a family full of love, and connection.
As a luxury portrait photographer, we’re honored to create meaningful art that celebrates relationships like theirs. This session is part of our Who Saved Who project, which highlights the beautiful bonds between people and their animal companions—not just stories of rescue, but of love, loyalty, and joy. For anyone searching for exclusive portrait photography near me, this is the kind of unforgettable, emotion-filled experience we’re proud to offer. Carly, RJ, and Max’s portraits are a reminder of the quiet moments, the playful memories, and the deep connections that make life so beautiful.
After doing some research I have learned that having a hedgehog as a pet is honestly one of the cutest things ever. They’re a little shy at first, but once they get used to you, they’re super sweet and fun to watch—especially when they run on their wheel like they’re training for a marathon. They’re quiet, don’t smell, and are pretty low-maintenance if you set things up right. You just have to make sure they’re warm enough, give them a good diet (they love bugs—ew, but cute), and spend a little time handling them so they stay friendly. If you're around Charleston and thinking about getting one, there are a few places to check out! East Side Spikes Hedgehogs is a great little breeder that focuses on healthy, happy babies – you can reach out to them at East Side Spikes.
And if you ever need a vet who actually knows what to do with a hedgehog, Exotic Vet Care in Mount Pleasant is amazing—they specialize in exotic pets like these little guys: Exotic Vet Care.
