Jennifer’s 11-year-old German Shepherd, came into her life in October of 2017—and it was a connection neither of them expected, but both desperately needed. What makes their story so beautiful is that Fenn didn’t leave a family behind… he gained a second one.
“Being his second home didn’t mean he lost his first family,” Jennifer shares. “He and I both gained a second family.”
Fenn's first mom, Jenay, made the heart-wrenching decision to let him go, but quickly realized that Fenn hadn’t been lost—he had found another person who adored him just as fiercely. Over time, the two women became close friends, bonded by one extraordinary dog. Jennifer lovingly calls it their canine love triangle, built entirely on mutual respect and unconditional love for the same four-legged soul.Fenn became Jennifer’s fierce protector, especially as her life took difficult medical turns. When Jennifer received her terminal diagnosis, Jenay was the first one at her side—another reminder of how deeply Fenn has tied their lives together. “He became the piece of my heart I didn’t know was missing,” Jennifer says. “He is my soul dog.”
If Fenn is her soul dog, Loki is her survivor’s dog.
Loki, an 11-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, entered Jennifer’s life at just eight weeks old—only one week after her first cancer treatment. His timing was nothing short of divine. He was small enough to fit in her arms but had a presence big enough to help keep her heart steady during one of the hardest chapters of her life.
“Loki was the perfect distraction,” she explains. “He gave me peace of mind through my first cancer diagnosis.”
Loki grew up by her side—loyal, steady, and impossibly intuitive. He wasn’t just a puppy; he was hope, wrapped in a warm brown coat. Jennifer’s devotion to her boys shows in every moment she spends with them. From the way she speaks their names to the tender way they lean into her, it’s clear that these three have built a life on trust, healing, and shared strength.
She also gives heartfelt credit to Lake Town Animal Hospital and Dr. Hodges in Chapin, SC, who have lovingly cared for both Fenn and Loki
That’s the magic of this series—there’s never just one answer.
Did Jennifer save Fenn and Loki? Or… did they save her?
Maybe the truth is beautifully in-between.
And in the quiet moments, Jennifer knows something with absolute certainty:
They were meant to find each other. Every step of the way.
